Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune condition where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own joints. This leads to inflammation, pain, swelling, and stiffness, especially in smaller joints like hands, wrists, and feet.

Unlike normal arthritis (due to age-related wear and tear), RA can affect people at any age and may worsen over time if not treated properly. It can also affect multiple joints on both sides of the body.
