Pelvi-acetabular injuries involve fractures of the pelvis and the acetabulum, which is the socket part of the hip joint. These are among the more serious orthopaedic injuries because they affect the body’s ability to stand, walk, and bear weight normally.

Such fractures are usually caused by high-energy trauma, especially road traffic accidents, falls from height, or severe impact injuries. In some patients, especially older adults with weaker bones, even a lower-impact fall may cause significant pelvic injury.

Because the hip joint plays a major role in movement and balance, these fractures must be treated carefully. If ignored or treated improperly, they may lead to chronic pain, stiffness, difficulty walking, joint damage, or early arthritis.
